GAF warranty tiers, explained

GAF — the largest US shingle manufacturer — issues four levels of coverage. The tier you qualify for depends on whether the contractor is GAF-certified and which add-on components are installed. Most contractors can only register the bottom tier.

Tier 1

Standard limited

What ships with every GAF shingle out of the box. Material defects only — workmanship is on the contractor regardless. Anyone can register this.

Tier 2

System Plus

Material defects + a longer "Smart Choice" period and inclusive non-prorated coverage. Requires a GAF Factory-Certified contractor — covers the full GAF Roofing System (shingles + at least 3 GAF accessories).

Tier 3

Silver Pledge

Adds 25 years of workmanship coverage on top of the material warranty. Requires a GAF Master Elite contractor and at least 4 GAF accessory products. Master Elite is the top 2% of US roofers.

Tier 4 — top

Golden Pledge

The strongest GAF coverage available — material defects, workmanship, AND tear-off and disposal of replacement shingles, for up to 25 years. Requires Master Elite + a third- party post-install GAF inspection. We can quote at this tier on request.

Aero Precision Roofing is a GAF Master Elite contractor — one of fewer than 2% of US roofers qualified to register Silver Pledge or Golden Pledge coverage. Other manufacturers (Owens Corning Platinum, CertainTeed ShingleMaster) have equivalent top tiers we can register against.

What can void coverage

Every manufacturer warranty has exclusions. The most common ways to lose coverage, regardless of brand:

  • Walking on the roof for non-emergency reasons (foot traffic damages shingles)
  • Pressure washing — strips granules and accelerates UV damage
  • Mounting solar, satellite dishes, or HVAC equipment without manufacturer-approved flashing
  • Painting, coating, or sealing the shingles after installation
  • Layering a new roof over an existing one (overlay) instead of full tear-off
  • Repairs by a non-certified contractor that disturb the original installation
  • Skylights, dormers, or chimneys retrofitted later without warranty-compliant flashing
  • Inadequate attic ventilation that causes heat buildup beyond manufacturer spec

On every install we register your specific warranty with the manufacturer and hand you the documentation. If you're not sure what you have on a roof we didn't install, we can usually identify the warranty status during a free inspection.

Partner certifications

Our installer certifications unlock extended manufacturer warranties most contractors can't offer.
